    1919 ROSS SMITH vignette on watermarked ‘Crown over A’ paper. Authorised by Prime Minister’s Department and designed by AIF war artist Lieutenant George Benson. Mint copies of this stamp with selvedge on all sides are one of the most sought after varieties in Australian philately. According to Nelson Eustis approximately 50 mint examples with complete selvedge exist in private collections. This example has full original gum (mint unhinged), signed by David Field in pencil on reverse.

    Myer embossed Parcel Label 5/10 in used condition. During the early post-war years, severe shortages led to the “Food for Britain” campaign. The cost of sending a food parcel weighing between 3lb and 8lb was 3/7, between 8lb and 11 lb was 5/10. The complete embossed parcel labels were overlooked by collectors in the 1940’s so they are scarce today.
